Hiking Whiteside Mountain
10/31/01

From Van Hook Glade Campground heading for Hendersonville, NC, we stopped in the Nantahala National Forest to hike up Whiteside Mountain. It is located south of US 64 between Highlands and Cashiers. A landmark along the eastern continental divide, Whiteside Mountain rises to an elevation of 4,930 feet. The mountain's cliffs look like sheets of ice draped across the mountain. This magnificent rock is estimated to be 390 to 460 million years old.

Here are a few pictures of the spectacular scenery.
